Jamie T

Young Jamie Treays is a singer/songwriter who is genuinely impossible to pigeonhole.

Starting out just playing an acoustic bass around pubs in his native Wimbledon, he was soon lumped in with the NME-invented 'Thamesbeat' scene, alongside Mystery Jets, Larrikin Love (whose album he guested on) and The Holloways.

In terms of mainstream success though, Jamie has eclipsed all of them. His four major singles so far have all been playlisted by Radio One, with 'If You've Got the Money' and 'Calm Down Dearest' both narrowly missing out on the top 10.

Debut album 'Panic Prevention' reached number four, despite being leaked on the internet three weeks early, and he rounded off a successful year by beating Thom Yorke and Jarvis Cocker to the Best Solo Artist gong at the NME Awards 2007.

Jamie T – Chaka Demus EP
Virgin Records

It's been a while since 'Panic Prevention', but Jamie T has released a few teasers in recent weeks. This latest is a mini EP featuring the song 'Chaka Demus' off new album 'Kings and Queens'.

With a pretty similar sound to his previous work, it might be a bit disappointing if you were expecting something completely different, but 'Chaka Demus' is still a top tune and well worth the listen.
