Lady GaGa

Hailed 'the future of pop' by the New York Post, Lady Gaga or Stefani Joanne Germanotta, is an American singer-songwriter and musician from New York.  Signed to Akon's Interscope label, her music follows a similar vein, a sort of mish-mash of electro, pop and hip hop.

Lady GaGa was originally signed to Def Jam when she was nineteen years old but was dropped after three months. In early 2007, she was offered a deal with Interscope, hired as a songwriter and partnered with singer/producer/songwriter Akon.  If you listen carefully they both sound incredibly similar.

Her new album Fame debuted at no.1 on the US Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart and its lead single 'Just Dance' reached no.2 in the US.  She looks set to storm the UK as well, with numerous publications hailing her as 'one to watch for 2009' (perhaps they just copied the Post) and 'Just Dance' reaching the top 5.

SINGLES REVIEWS (12 Jan)
Lady GaGa – Just Dance
Interscope Records
Tipped by numerous publications as 'one to watch for 2009' and set to unseat that f***ing 'Hallelujah' piece of crap from no.1 in the singles charts, it is with great sadness I have to inform you that Lady GaGa is in fact rooooowbish.

This music blends straight into the background of the shit sandwich of hip hop, electro and pop dirge that is currently holding our radiowaves captive. Akon, Rihanna and Kevin Rudolph you know who you are. Hip-hop+electro=bad sounds.

SINGLES OF THE WEEK - 15th March 2010

Lady Gaga feat. Beyoncé – Telephone
Interscope

Sometimes a spot of sneaky editing is carried out by the New Releases Editor. Numbers are occasionally *gasp* fiddled – to ensure that the coveted title of Single of the Week goes to a track endorsed by those in charge.

Well not this week. Gaga is taking the top spot and nobody can do a bloody thing about it. Ignore their last track together (it was bobbins); this time pop's Queen and Princess Di unite to devastating effect. With Gaga belting out semi-sensical drivel to a thumping electro backing, a wacko video and even a little rap from the Queen, this is basically a bally belter! 5/5
