Lily Allen

The daughter of comedian Keith Allen, Myspace sensation Lily has rapidly risen to become one of the biggest names in UK pop. Her whimsical ska pop, with lyrics focusing on everyday life in the city, has even seen her crack America and win many admirers and fans. With her chav chic and ska-lite stylings, it would be easy to pass her off as just another over-hyped popstar, but some of the songs do show an inventiveness that is lacking from the charts of late.

Lily Allen – The Fear
Parlophone/Regal

I have to secretly admit that I kind of love Lily Allen, despite reason dictating otherwise. So when I heard new single 'The Fear', I allowed myself a muffled 'Yay, she's back!'

Although the electro-pop production marks something of a departure from her debut album, this single is still classic Lils. Her voice is sweet but archly bored, the video's cool, and she does a nice line in lyrical ambiguity: 'I'm not a saint, but I'm not a sinner / Now everything's cool as long as I'm getting thinner.' Brilliant. TJ

Lily Allen – 22
Parlophone

Off the tube from work (at last got that toss-pot from Vogue to feature your client in their Best Brollies round-up) stuff Grazia into your bag with the lipgloss and Marlboro Lights. Get to the bar. You all order rosé, move onto vodka cranberry. Bitch about Sienna Miller, reminisce, snap a heel.

Is this it? There's hope, but it's a gin-soaked lust for Sinha-Stanic. 'Autumn/Winter '11 already?' The Ab Drab life teeters along. Mascara and misery – once more Lily nails it. 4.5/5
