Maximo Park
One of the new-new-wave bands to emerge in 2005, Maximo Park quickly shot to prominence with their angular sound, combining keyboards and angular guitars to full effect. Perhaps their greatest asset however, is eccentric frontman Paul Smith.
Famed for his flicked combover (now permanently covered in a bowler hat), and his red lyric book onstage, his feverish live performances and deeply personal lyrics give the Park a distinctive sound that marks them out from their peers.
Though their second album ‘Our Earthly Pleasures’ has received mixed reviews, they have, more than any other of the class of 2005, managed to develop their sound while retaining the spirit that made so many fall for them in the first place.
