Mika

Hailing from Lebanon, and raised in Paris and London, Mika is a singer-songwriter who is possibly the most annoying person to emerge on the London music scene since Rene and Renato.

Not only does he not have a single ounce of originality in his bones (erm, we think you'll find Queen did the fat girl loving falsetto rock thing in the 1970s, Mika) he has the timelessly irritating quality of being horribly positive all the time - sort of like Blue Peter in human form.

My friend sent me Lollipop a little over a year ago and I thought it was the most ridiculous song I have ever heard. "Who is this strange man who sings in falsetto?" I thought to myself. "How could he ever become popular?" To my surprise, I continued to hear his name amongst the knowledgeable pop music circle (i.e. my little sister) and finally listened to the whole album Life in Cartoon Motion. Only then did I realise that his music works as part of a package. No one song stands alone but the album overall is a sugary, pop-y package of music goodness. Careful with Mika, though. Too much in one go and you might get a cavity.

Mika – We are Golden
Casablanca Music

Having already targeted the larger ladies audience, Mika has moved on to being down wid da kidz in his new song 'We are Golden', where he prances around in his underwear, singing about teenagers whilst lightning strikes him. It's just precious.

Seriously though, don't bother listening to it. It's absolute crap.
