Formerly Mr Hudson and the Library, Ben Hudson arrived on the scene as a rather British twee hip hop phenomenon, straight outta Oxford University, before catching the eye of
Kanye West and quickly getting caught up in a transatlantic welter of great hip hop/indie/electroclash music making. He guests on Kanye's sublime 2008 album 808s & Heartbreak and the favour was returned for his huge-selling 2009 track 'Supernova'.
All this has left Mr Hudson little time to settle on a style. At live gigs, he often stops the crowd in their nu rave, hip hop tracks by whipping out the guitar for an acoustic love song. The man has a great voice, good songwriting skills and huge versatility. Perhaps it doesn't matter that he veers between twee post-folk, stomping 80s power anthems and synth-soup hip hop. It all works and this is the 21st century after all. We'll listen to anything.
