Natalia

It doesn't get more international than this. Natalia was born in Barry (yes it's a real place) in Wales to a Greek-Welsh mother and Lebanese-Jordanian father. Greece, Wales, Jordan and the Lebanon combined: it sounds like a terrible concept fusion restaurant, but actually it's been a recipe (sorry) for success for young singer-songwriter Natalia.

She's the latest in a lengthening line of single-named female popsters (from Amy down to Estelle and Adele, Duffy, Fluffy, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail...) and, like them, she's poised to hit the big time.

Debut single 'Thanx 4 Nothin' and follow up 'Perfect Day' showcase Natalia's brand of soulful but street-smart summer pop, whilst support slots for the likes of Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Lemar, Kano and Jay Sean prove that she ain't no slouch when it comes to playing live either.

It's all looking pretty rosy for Natalia right now.

I’m not a big fan of pop music. In fact, when someone mentions Girls Aloud to me I agree with them. But then, whilst trawling the airwaves for something that interested me, I stumbled across the single 'Perfect Day.' With a soulful melody and R&B flair, I immediately assumed it was Rihanna's new single. I was soon corrected, however, as it turned out to be Girls Aloud support act Natalia.

Inspired by "perspective and positivity," the song is full of catchy rhythms and simplistic beats, complemented by beautiful vocals. Sitting at my computer I was able to discover her debut single 'Thanx for Nothin' and a third track 'Cookie Jar' that comes with registering for her newsletter.

Her debut album's released at the beginning of January. In amongst an overblown jazz collection, I may have to make room for one Welsh diva.
