NOFX are a highly successful, long-standing punk band that hail from California and have been giving the finger to basically everyone since the early 80s. Notoriously anti-establishment, they have never signed to a major label and have satirized everything from religion to celebrity.
Their music is tight; bouncing but not radio-friendly, with singer Fat Mike's vocals recalling Joe Strummer's almost-harmonious melody-driven song. An essential link in the chain, they paved the way for bands like almost pop-punk outfit, The Ataris, who filed the whole thing down and began to look for ways to take punk into the mainstream.
Having independently sold more than six million records worldwide, they still occupy a rite-of-passage position in rock kids' collection and can be seen adorning the front of many a t-shirt.
