Noisettes

Trio led by singing bass player Shingai Shoniwa, they have supported Muse and released a début album to considerable critical acclaim in February 2007.

While musically they are by no means indie revolutionaries, the stage presence and sheer power of Shingai’s voice lifts them above most of their peers.

Like a cross between Peaches, Karen O and Billie Holliday, she is the consummate front-woman for a band who are destined for greater things very soon.

I love The Noisettes. Before the Lady Gagas and Ida Marias of this world were even picking up guitars, Shingai Shoniwa and her band were out there making the sorts of tunes these other fashion-pop princesses could only dream of. They might have disappeared for a while but they're back with a vengeance and an excellent tune to boot.

'Don't Upset the Rhythm' is a fantastic slice of disco pop mixed up with a little bit of funk and a whole lot of attitude. Love it. 4.5/5
