Pixies

American alternative rock band Pixies have lingered outside the mainstream for most of their career, at times singing about left-field subjects like UFOs and surrealism. But hey, who's complaining? Formed in Boston, Massachusetts in the 1980s and made up of Frank Black, Kim Deal, David Lovering and Joey Santiago, the band behind 'Here Comes Your Man', 'Velouria' and 'Head On' have won admirers in circles that count.  The late Kurt Cobain was a big fan of Francis' melodic, wailing vocals.

Pixies disbanded in 1993 but reunited in 2004 to rejoin the  concert circuit. Post-reformation, they have played at festivals like Lollapalooza, Reading and Leeds.
