The Platinum Pied Pipers - or the more streamlined PPP as they prefer to be known today - are a duo from Brooklyn whose soul-based debut album 'Triple P' (2005) smashed down several musical boundaries - making everyone love them in the process - and providing a new twist on modern hip hop and soul.
Producers Waajeed and Saadiq have a history in hip hop (Waajeed helped form Slum Village, Saadiq was tutored by songwriter Barrett Strong) and their slant is smooth soul, rnb, hip hop and funk. Saadiq - a master guitar and keyboard player - provides the improvisational influence, while Waajeed adds the gritty, Detroit hip hop via his MPC 2000.
Their latest work fuses their vintage and contemporary influences - you're just as likely to hear a Detroit techno beat or drum 'n' bass roll amongst the fluid PPP soul as you are hip hop and funk.
They have a supporting cast who assist them in the studio and onstage; an array of talented male and female singers.
These guys are brilliant. Deep, full, vibrant and immensely talented.
