Roots Manuva

Roots Manuva (born Rodney Smith in 1974 in Stockwell) is the biggest name in UK hip hop, an innovator whose tracks for ninja tune prefigured grime, and a brilliant live performer. An actual son of a preacher man, Roots Manuva's intelligent, hilarious lyrics and style are completely uplifting and will even teach you something.

Many people around the world rate this guy as their favourite hip hop artist and he certainly represents the UK scene at its witty, pioneering best. His live shows are an exuberant exchange of love with the crowd. Run Come Save Me from 2001 was one of the most acclaimed albums of the past decade and a tall order to follow up, but Awfully Deep in 2005 is even better and you should get into this music if you haven't already.
