In a sense Sally Shapiro is not really one person at all. Yeah, OK, that's not strictly true - technically it is the pseudonym of a Swedish singer songwriter who chooses to keep her name secret, but more and more it's becoming applicable to a duo consisting of said singer, producer/writer Johan Agebjörn and their weird music.
Anyway with the complexities of labelling out of the way, it's down to the music - and that's where things get really interesting. A witch's brew of Italo-Disco and the sort of wistful sentimentality you usually find in twee indie pop, there really is nothing else out there quite like Sally Shapiro at the moment. Its cross-genre appeal is literally off the charts. You could meet a person at a house-party wearing a Lazertag T-Shirt and a massive mullet, play it to them and chances are they'll be into it.
