James Ford and Jas Shaw met Simon Lord and Alex MacNaughten at Manchester Uni.
They decided to form a band called Simian. Unfortunately, James and Jas never set out to play as the rhythm section of a traditional band - preferring to persevere with the strange electronic music they'd begun producing at uni.
They began to DJ together as Simian Mobile Disco, playing electro to sweaty ravers whenever they could. At around this time, their record company launched a competition for bedroom acts to remix the Simian track 'Never Be Alone'. An unknown french dup calling themselves Justice entered. They didn't win, but somehow Erol Alkan heard the track, and the two outfits were launched into the stratosphere.
Two birds, one remix. Simain Mobile Disco have released on Kitsune and I'm A Cliche, and produced albums for The Mystery Jets, Klaxons and Arctic Monkeys.
