Sparrow and the Workshop
Sparrow & the Workshop are a folksy trio from Glasgow who came together in the good north in January of 2008. Since then the Scottish/Welsh/American band have been fusing together their disparate influences that take in wild fiddling folk, straight up country and MC5 laden proto-punk, and emerging with a seductive selection of songs, such as the haunting 'I Will Break You', with which they have been wowing audiences.
Centered around the haunting vocals of Jill O'Sullivan the band are completed by Gregor Donaldson on drums and co vocals and Nick Parker on bass and electric slide.
They have been hard at work recording a mini LP for Distiller records which will be proceeded by a single in April 2009

Very simply one of the best bands I have heard this year. They make timeless folk music in the traditional sense. Their songs feel like they have been around for a million years. Vocally it's like having Cat Power and Nick Cave in the same band.. which is a personal aural wet dream. If you like any sort of folk, country, noir style music, even punk and you haven't heard Sparrow you are seriously missing out.
