Stone Roses

Part of the 'Madchester' alternative rock movement of the late 80's and early 90's, The Stone Roses were a Manchester-based band made up of Ian Brown (vocals), John Squire (guitar), Gary 'Mani' Mounfield (bass) and Alan 'Reni' Wren (drums).

Blending guitars with acid house beats, their sound defined an era of alternative British music that influenced and spawned similar groups like The Happy Mondays, The Charlatans and the Inspiral Carpets.

In 1989, they released their self-titled debut album which contained singles 'Made Of Stone' and 'She Bangs The Drums'. It was re-released with their seminal track 'Fool's Gold' in 1991 and was named by NME as the 'Greatest British Album of All Time' in 2006 and one of the 'The All Time Top 100 Albums' by Time magazine.

After Reni left in 1995, followed by John Squire in 1996, the band struggled on with replacement members, playing a number of disastrous festival performances before eventually disbanding in October '96. Although there have been plenty of rumours about them reforming, Squire and Brown both vehemently deny any possibility of a reunion and haven't spoken to each other since.
