The Cribs

Wakefield trio who were part of the Guerilla Gig scene along with Razorlight and The Libertines, building up a huge following at that time and following up with some fantastic record releases. These guys like to drink rather than take smack but their live shows are entertainingly wild. The Cribs are an excellent indie band in a thriving scene – but not above taking the piss out of themselves, the whole noo wave movement, and especially the car crash fascination of fans for their idols. Expect great melodies and knowing lyrics knocking fanboy idiots who want be Pete Doherty.

SINGLES REVIEWS - August 31st 2009

Predictable! The Cribs have gone all woeful with Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr now on board. 'Cheat On Me' employs the same sell as 'Men's Needs' and 'Hey Scenesters' - melodic guitar lines and the Jarmans rasping like they've got incurable tonsillitis - except it's less sprightly and plods on dangerously into tedious, Kasabian territory.

Ryan Jarman has urged fans to forsake a McDonald's burger to buy, rather than illegally download, this single. It's not a bad tune, just not as great as a quarter pounder. 3.5/5
