The Drums

The Drums claim to be 'really just like everybody else, chasing that perfect pop song'. Well, they're not far off if you ask us! Their songs are full of pop hooks and rocky guitar driven backings, and are probably the indie scene's answer to the Beach Boys.

Their harmonising and reverby vocals give them a 60s feel, yet their Joy Division guitar strummings taint it with a Factory Records influence.

Already huge in NYC, these boys are set to be big here soon too.

The Drums – Let’s Go Surfing
Moshi Moshi

With a title like 'Let's Go Surfing', it would be difficult for The Drums not to rely heavily on Beach Boys-esque reminiscing about catching the best waves or wishing they were old enough to score girls. Yet they balance out this American diner nostalgia with a few Joy Division bass lines and Animal Collective echoing vocals, merging together influences from all over the shop.

With harmless lyrics, jaunty pop hooks and a bit of charm, this really is quite a catchy little number. 4/5

The Drums – I Felt Stupid
Moshi Moshi

You know that look your mum used to give you after she found out you had been kissing boys and smoking cigarettes instead of concentrating on your school project? That's the expression that this song induces in me: sheer disappointment.

After my last review of the catchy 'Let's Go Surfing', I thought The Drums were going onto big things. Hopefully this tune is just a personality lacking, whiney blip in their otherwise glittering surf-rock career. 2/5
