The Escape Committee aren’t trying to escape from anything in particular. In fact, they’re fairly happy playing their unique brand of progressive indie in the heart of the Suffolk countryside – scaring tramps and annoying farmers. Well, sort of, anyway.
TEC are a lively bunch of chaps who have been causing quite a stir by simply writing good songs that often stray away from the norm. So far, it’s been an interesting journey. Signed to indie gunslingers Bespoke on the strength of their former guise Tornado Smith and one well attended gig – they’ve been beavering away ever since. Little Victories was released on CD and on
Itunes/Napster in early 2007 and quickly followed up with the heavier Lost Leaders EP. Neither broke any sales records but both made an impression where it mattered most.
Uniquely, there is no trademark TEC sound, Little Victories features acoustic guitars, piano (The Duration) and even a harmonica (Everyone We Know) – but also boasts some storming distorted guitar bursts. TEC also underline their progressive edge with closer Sitting In Silence. The Lost Leaders includes the guttural Diktat and a wall of distortion, I’m Crushing Your Head is a pop punk explosion and White Flag, White Background is a new wave political flag waver.
So, in conclusion, TEC are a mixed bag with a penchant for a good tune. They’re still growing and the crowd sizes are getting bigger but their aspirations are fairly clear. Continue to write innovative music with an edge and damn well enjoy it!
