The Shins

Originally hailing from Albuquerque, this indie trio defy categorization. Singer James Mercer writes the songs and accompanies himself on guitar, Jesse Sandoval plays drums and shouts at the good bits and bassist Dave Hernandez keeps every track riding along in a happy daze. This is swarming, upbeat pop music that infects the brain and leaves an indelible happy impression. With three albums under their belts already and a large international fan base built on years of touring, The Shins are well set for a few more years of top pop production. The music is upbeat and basically involves riff-offs between guitar and keyboard, with dryly amusing lyrics bubbling over the tope. A great band, and brilliant live. Expect a big turn out for their visits to the UK.
