Originators of Girl Power, girl bands, and the mid nineties pop revival The Spice Girls cut a formidable figure in the British music scene, dominating the charts on and off since the release of their début single 'Wannabe' in 1996.
Formed from Geri Halliwell (ginger), Mel B (scary), Mel C (sporty) Victoria Adams (posh) and Emma Bunton (baby), since their inception the Spice Girls were formed around the unholy alliance of highly savy marketing, saccharine pop, and post-Riot Grrrl feminism.
Fracturing with the departure of Halliwell in 1998, and finally splitting in 2001 after declining album sales, the band remained in the media spotlight without actually existing- with persistent rumours of a reunion following the members various solo projects.
In June 2007, the band reformed, embarking on a 11 date tour in December to coincide with a new 'Greatest Hits' album and a documentary.
