The Temper Trap

The Temper Trap are an Australian rock band that make soaring guitar based rock music. The high-echoing reverb on rhythm guitar and gradually building momentum within songs is reminiscent of U2 in their Joshua Tree pomp (and ever since) but a distinctive lyrical style and inventive melodies make them distinctive, rather than derivative.

It's all a bit earnest and stadium rocky, a bit 'rock profound' but the band are phenomenal live and have a real connection with their audiences. Maybe this is why they inject some meaning and outreach into their songs instead of just rocking out like most of our favourite Aussies.

Anyway this all sounds a bit equivocal. What we really mean is that this is a big, epic sounding band that deserve to be huge and are well on their way. See them live!

The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition
Infectious Records

Producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club etc) has stuffed this band up in the studio. They've always been a tight unit producing dense, enjoyable rock with stadium ambitions, and singer Dougy Mandagi has always liked a bit of soaraway Thom Yorke-style wailing.

The first tracks from The Temper Trap were great and they absolutely rock live, but this song is bland and forgettable. Very good sound and musicianship, but as boring as a Tesco's Margherita. 2/5
