The Verve

The Verve, a band hailing from Wigan, who not only bought us the lovely Mr Ashcroft but also a plethera of amazing hits that still sound brand new today.

Best known for the album 'Urban Hymns' which showcased songs such as Bittersweet Symphony, Drugs Dont Work and Lucky Man it was very unfortunate indeed when the guys cited personal differences and split in April 1999.

Roll on 2007, and the lads are back, touring their backsides off across the country. Expect old and new songs that will definitely have you waving your lighter in the air, well they would if it wasnt for health and safety.

The Verve - Love Is Noise
Parlophone

Ten years on from 'Sonnet', The Verve return with the comeback single that closed this year's Glastonbury. Pitching up somewhere between the psych-rock of 'A Northern Soul' and the orchestral bombast of 'Urban Hymns', any hangover from Richard Ashcroft's insipid solo ventures is (thankfully) conspicuous by its absence.

It's basically the band's 'Best Of', distilled into four minutes - Richie even throws in some more William Blake poetry for good measure. A welcome return for one of the most important British bands of the '90s. MF
