Edinburgh based strummer Dan Willson might look a little bit like a nerdy teenager more addicted to World of Warcraft than rock 'n' roll, but is clearly a highly talented individual. Not only is he a 'visual artist' (whatever that means), but he is also the sole permanent member of musical project Withered Hand.
Once you've finished sniggering at the name, it becomes clear that Withered Hand are a very special unit indeed. The music alternates between Belle and Sebastien style indie-pop - laced liberally with their fellow Scots' gently folky rush - and alternative rock which betrays an affinity with US bands such as Pavement and the Silver Jews. Bravo!
