Years of Rice and Salt

This five-piece rock/folk band aren't afraid of the 'concept' record, with their very first EP telling the story of a shipwreck in four haunting instrumental tracks.

Live gigs are as rare as hens teeth at present, as the band prefer polishing their sound in session and posing for photo shoots, but the strength of their early tracks suggest good things are to come for this group.

Service Bell EP

Alright, so it's not a single, it's an epic EP conveying the story of a shipwreck in four haunting long-play tracks. But it is out this week, and free. And we love it, so we thought we'd share it.

A narrative without words, conveyed in soaring guitars, splashed percussion, harmonicas and fiddles... there's a definite Celtic/nautical timbre to this record, evoking feelings both homesick, and peaceful. The whole thing is beautifully arranged and involving. Check it out!

I saw them live over at Ginglik last night. What did I think? YORAS are incredible, and the songs themselves are masterpieces. They are definately not "just another Indie band" and are ones to watch.

Taking influence from post-rock acts such as Explosions in the Sky, they have added a lot of celtic and folk elements, which set them apart and allow them to carve their own niche in the genre. The EP is brilliant and their live performance manages to capture both the intense and quiet-introspective moments of their songs. YORAS are a great band that is worth seeking out.

Service Bell EP one of the records of '09 for me.
