Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is arguably the best known and the most commercially successful musical theatre composer in history. He also runs his own company, The Really Useful Group, which is one of the largest theatre operators in London.
Lloyd Webber's first musical, written with Tim Rice, was the Likes of Us but was not performed until recently. His second, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, is a well known and much revived musical. However, it was not a commercial success until after the release of the writing duos third musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, which was a huge hit both in the charts and at the box office, launching the two to stardom.
Amongst Lloyd Webber's best known shows are Evita, Cats, Starlight Express, Sunset Boulevard and Phantom of the Opera, the long running show that originally starred his wife of the time, Sarah Brightman.
Lloyd Webber has been showered with awards, including seven Tonys and Oliviers, three Grammys, an Academy and a Golden Globe.
Recently, Lloyd Webber has produced revivals of well known classics, including his own Joseph, and controversially found his leading man or lady through the medium of reality TV.
