What's on in Hoxton and Shoreditch
Home to Spoonfed HQ, Hoxton and Shoreditch are vibrant areas in the London Borough of Hackney. Once run-down, Hoxton and Shoreditch have become increasingly popular and trendy with a particularly vibrant arts scene. Its change in fortune has occurred over time due to its highly desirable location just north of the City financial district and east of Islington. The southern part of the area tends to be the central hub of arts and entertainment, and includes numerous popular restaurants and nightclubs while the more northern areas of Hoxton are marked by the Hoxton Street Market and the Geffrye Museum.
Some of the prominent residents of Hoxton include celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, EastEnders actor Peter Dean and filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock. A statue in honor of Hitchcock stands near the Gainsborough Studios where he began his career. Shoreditch has picked up its share famous names throughout the ages as well, including William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, Tracy Emin and artist Damien Hirst. The area is currently accessible from the Old Street station south of Hoxton and in 2010 will be served by two stops on the new East London Railway.
