Democracy takes us into a world of 1970s German politics centred on the final months in office of the charismatic West German Chancellor Willy Brandt who resigned in 1974 after one of his close aides was exposed as a Stasi spy. 

The play unfolds amid the tension and suspiscion of a coalition governent struggling to improve realtions between East and West Germany and the Soviet Union.
