Dirty Dancing
When: Thursday, 8 January from 19:30 - 22:05
Genres: Musicals, Melodrama, Romance, Comedy
Rejoice ladies and roll your eyes guys the musical version of the ultimate 80s chick flick is here! And what's more, it's brilliant.
Fresh from a successful tour of Australia, this production is sold out months ahead with virtually every girl aged between 20 and 80 desperate to see the stage version of their favourite girly movie. The original featured Jennifer Grey as the wealthy girl at holiday camp with her strait laced but loving family, and Patrick Swayze as the rebellious dance instructor who teaches her all about life and love.
Dirty Dancing really is a chick flick, but also stands up outside the genre as a damn good movie. It has convincing, amusing characters, a great script, and a killer soundtrack, and despite being almost unbelievably mushy is a much better 'compromise' movie than other 80s pap like Pretty in Pink.
The musical version is apparently very faithful to the original. A couple of tickets to this show might just be the best gift of the year from a man to a lady. The brilliant dance routines are apparently even more captivating live and the male lead gets his kit off equally often.
