Don Carlos, son of the King of Spain, is in love with Elizabeth, but unluckily for him she becomes his father's wife thanks to betrayal and political manoeuvrings. Not the best thing for father-son relations in any situation, let alone one steeped in war and corruption.
Lashings of passion, deceit and betrayal in Schiller's masterpiece are given a vivid re-interpretation by the excellent Lazarus Theatre Company whose production of The White Devil we're still raving about.
