The '70s are responsible for a lot, most of it bad. There were polyester suits, ABBA and Jane Fonda but the decade did redeem itself with this artistic masterpiece in 1976.

This abstract opera takes seemingly opposing forces and attempts to merge them. It ponders and dismisses, it brightens and dulls and perhaps most oddly of all, it favours synthesisers and woodwinds over voice. With choreography from Lucinda Childs, this will be the most bizarre, most fascinating five hours (yeah, five hours!) of your life.
