In Emily Mann's fantastic 1984 play, the trial of The People Vs. Dan White is itself put on trial and found guilty of a miscarriage of justice.
After shooting the mayor of San Francisco in 1978 and the first openly gay city supervisor, Harvey Milk, White was convicted of voluntary manslaughter.
Mann's verbatim play takes us in and out of the courtroom and backwards and forwards in time as accounts from San Fransicans reveal a picture of a grieving, divided city.
