Lawrence Krishna Parker is KRS-One; a pioneering American MC and producer from Brooklyn. He has many pseudonyms: Kris Parker, The Blastmaster, The Teacha, and The Philosopher.
KRS-One was originally his graf tag and is derived from him hanging with the Hare Krishnas in his youth - earning the nickname Kris. KRS-One is short for Kris Number One. The backronym is 'Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone'.
Still at it after almost 20 years, he stops by the Jazz Cafe tonight for what promises to be a greatest hits set.
