Best known for his role as founder and co-leader of avant-garde rock band Swans, over the last 20 years Michael Gira has emerged as one of rocks most important innovators, not only through his work with the Young Gods label which has gave us Akron/Famil and James Blacksaw, but also as a singer songwriter.
Much lest limited than his Swans' persona, Gira's solo ranges through blues, goth, no wave and folk with complete impunity, but it's all strung together with a rich stream of alienation, heart-ache and anguish, making it always captivating whatever the genre he's messing about in.
