Arguably the most famous of all Paul Delaroche's historical tableaux, The Execution of Lady Jane Grey, forms the centre piece of this latest exhibition.

The staged, acted nature of the 19th Century painting belies a piercing sense of tragedy and realism. Depicting the moment before the execution of the young queen after a nine day reign, the inception of poignant subject matter and expression slowly comes through in the preparatory drawings and sketches shown alongside the work.

Until 23.05.10.
