Sometimes credited as the creator of the first work of Pop Art, Richard Hamilton is one of the leading figures of British art in the Twentieth Century. Working mainly with painting and collage, Hamilton's work is characterised by its stripped down composition, bright flat colours and an obsession with youth, glamour, transience and advertising.

Right now the National Portrait Gallery is hosting a series of portraits, to mark his death earlier in 2011.
