Hats off to Helena Bonham Carter for her turn in the film but is there a more perfect Mrs Lovett than Imelda Staunton? Michael Ball makes a marmite Sweeney Todd but Jonathan Kent's production of this Stephen Sondheim musical has generally won praise since its sell-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre.

This is the story of an everyman barber whose need for revenge turns him into a serial killer and whose batty neighbour turns his victims into pie filling.
