London's dedicated performance space for lesbian, gay and queer performance has been a beacon for the gay arts community for more than 30 years. We've seen some real tosh in the theatre but many shows are brilliant and influential. The current vogue for burlesque, vampish performance art and controversial drama, leaves the Drill Hall as a veteran among upstarts.
Shows are a mixed bag and many may find themselves puzzled or offended. On the other hand, the best new stuff here shines and inspires. The Drill Hall challenges performers and audiences alike, with mixed results, but a visit here is never boring and always thought provoking.
