Babalou in Brixton is nothing if not eccentric. I’m still at a bit of a loss to how you come up with an Arabian Nights themed restaurant and bar located in the crypt of an old church, but it definitely infuses the place with a real sense of the weird.
Being a crypt, Babalou benefits from low ceilings and floating arches, to create a space that is both intimate and cosy, with plenty of alcoves to tuck yourself into when you’re looking for a bit of privacy. A selection of quality live music, comedy and DJ nights run through the week to keep you entertained - well worth a look if you are ever south of the river.
Babalou will now be hosting 99 Club Brixton every Saturday, which will feature a host of established and up-and-coming comedians.
