What a wicked place Hive is. The ground floor restaurant is pretty good and decent value, but the real excitement is on the first floor. The whole experience is enhanced by walking through the tables of the diners before winding your way upstairs to the disco – very Goodfellas.

With a music policy that veers between house and hip hop but never gets cheesy or predictable, Hive has become a well loved hangout for regulars looking for a bit of calm and some decent tunes, away from the gig crowds and tourists.

Telling you all about it sort of defeats the point, but we had to share – it's a godsend finding a laid back, friendly joint where you can always get a seat and hear something that makes you stand up again. We love getting messy in Brixton, but sometimes, you need a break and we can’t name a better place to kick back.
