KOKO

1a Camden High Street, Camden, NW1 7JE
Tel: 0870 432 5527

Under various guises this huge Grade II listed Camden venue has played host to rising and falling stars across decades of popular music.

Its 2004 renovation from the Camden Palace into a modern multipurpose supervenue has seen a resurgence in popularity, evident in recent appearances by Madonna and Prince, as well as regular sessions from Club NME.

One of our favourite gig-spots in London for so many reasons, a show here is a treat even when the band is boring your face off, testament to the rare power of this glamorous, hedonistic and wonderful venue.

Great Venue, intimate yet spacious - great views from all levels especially all the way up top.

The best place to see rock bands before they go *stadium*.

I've visited Camden bohemoth 'Koko' on two occasions since moving to London - Heat's 6th birthday and Frantic's 11th! As well as the main space for dancing you get plenty of exercise climbing up to the top to look down on the DJ and hard-house gurners below.

Clearly everyone is loving Koko as much as me. Went there last night and i'd nearly forgotten what a stand out venue it is. Being a short arse, I can rarely see at gigs and have got used to becoming overly familiar with the person in fronts plaid shirt whenever i go to see a band. But Koko is perfect for shortees. The balconies enable you to see everything, lean on a barrier, and be within a couple of steps of a bar at all times. It may well be the best live music venue in London....what a claim...

Koko has always been one of my favourite venues. I'm not sure why. The sound's average, it gets hotter than the sun and travelling from one floor would be made easier, well, with lifts to be honest. Or if you could fly. It also plays host to one of the worst club nights in London. I'm not going to say which one in case a mob of indie kids chase me through the streets. Despite this though, it's a hard venue to dislike, mainly because it's so pretty that all the other venues in London are jealous.

A really atmospheric venue for seeing great live bands and an ideal spot to begin and end a messy night out with. Expect a fairly young crowd to pack out the Club NME nights but a place that welcomes a huge range of characters.

Saw Booka Shade there last night and for another shortarse this is just the best, most awesome venue

KOKO is one challenging venue, not just for the crowd, who have to negotiate the stairways and corridors to get from floor to floor, and take out a loan to fund a few drinks at the bar, but for the artist too. The acoustics of the place mean it's a fickle do-or-die venue, a cavernous space where sound and atmosphere can either triumphantly fill every corner, or fizzle out and die on the stage. I've seen both happen and it's to KOKO's credit that when the second scenario occurs, there's at least a nice building to admire. But then, that's like having cold, ashen coffee from a gleaming gold chalice.
