If you have ever attended the annual Chelsea Flower Show you would have been approached by a handful of pensioners dress in military uniforms asking for donations. These are the Chelsea Pensioners, who are bachelor pensioners that served Britain in the armed forces during WWII and other conflicts.

Founded in 1682 by King Charles II and intended for the 'succour and relief of veterans broken by age and war', the Royal Hospital and its Grade 1 listed buildings are the official home of the Chelsea Pensioners.

Within the grounds, you should make time to see the chapel, Great Hall, State Apartments and museum, which features a 1:300 scale model illustrating the hospital and grounds in the 18th Century.

Closed on Sunday from October till March and bank holidays.
