Big, bold and beautiful, the Lyceum, once known as the English Opera House, opened in 1838 and profited from an early association with Sir Henry Irving and his muse Ellen Terry whose musicals lit up the stage.

The Lyceum has always had a populist, fairly low brow schedule with melodramas and music hall vaudeville in the early 20th century and conversion to bingo in the 60s and 70s. Even today it is a ‘Disney’ theatre, hosting the hugely popular and long running The Lion King.

The beautiful interior, wide seats and huge acoustic definitely enhance this spectacular production, acclaimed as one of the world’s best, and the show looks set to run and run.
