William Angel really is a refreshing addition to the London arts scene. The name comes from the fact that William Blake apparently has his first mystical vision down on Peckham Rye, and in it he saw a tree filled with all manner of heavenly angels.
The reason though that London needs somehwere like William Angel is the gallery's professed aim of saving contemporary art from today's 'conceptual deadlock'. This desire means that exhibitions here feature work that involves both skill and genuine emotional involvement.
