Imperial War Museum

Lambeth Road, Elephant and Castle, SE1 6HZ
Tel: 020 7416 5320

Well balanced military collection which offsets great big tanks and guns with thoughtful retrospectives on the cost of war. This is an exciting place to visit as a kid but also brings home the horrors of the Blitz, the Holocaust, and trench warfare. It is a Peace museum.

There is a permanent collection covering the history of British warfare and another about the Holocaust, but the Imperial War Museum always has at least a couple of smaller shows in. They almost always include a special show on children’s perspective in wartime which really brings home the human cost to youngsters.
