Once upon a time, stressed-out, over-smogged Victorian Londoners would retreat to Finsbury Park for fresh air, picturesque views and a taste of the countryside.

Nowadays, the city has encroached and surrounded the green space, and a steady decline in funding and maintenance during the 70s saw much of the park fall into disrepair.

Happily, recent grants have renewed the park's fortunes, and a variety of summer events and festivals, as well as permanent sporting facilities, has made Finsbury Park an attractive prospect yet again.
