The Fitzroy Tavern is a Sam Smiths pub, steeped in history. Its name comes from the word 'Fitzrovia', first coined here, by a group of bohemians, who frequently congregated in the pub in the 1930s and 40s. Pictures of these writers, poets and artists are hung on the walls and there is a 'writers & artists' bar downstairs. Albert Pierrepont, the last public hangman, Dylan Thomas and Augustus John were regulars as was artist-mistress-muse-model Nina Hamnett.

If it's a Wednesday night check out Pear Shaped Comedy in the writer's room below. Not known for its quality control, it is silly, relaxed and fun.
