For over 1300 Fulham Palace was the owned by the Bishops of London. It was their country home from at least the 11th century and then their main residence from the eighteenth century until 1975.

Today the Palace is jointly run by Hammersmith and Fulham Council and the Fulham Palace Trust and it is a lovely place to visit. Within the grand rooms is a museum that explores the incredible history of the site, and outside are beautiful botanical gardens.

There's also a rather nice cafe-bar and gallery that hosts exhibitions of contemporary art inspired by the Palace. And if the grandeur of the place starts giving you ideas above your station then Fulham Palace is available to hire. Probably costs a pretty penny though.
