O2 Arena

Millennium Way, Greenwich, SE10 0AX
Tel: 0871 984 0002

Formerly the much maligned Millennium Dome, the renamed O2 Arena retains the white facade and yellow support poles, but internally has been transformed into a corporate-sponsored behemoth of modern entertainment.

With a 23000 capacity main arena, a smaller amphitheatre holding 2350, an exhibition space, cinema and a selection of bars, restaurants and coffee shops, it is the ultimate leisure park.

A visit here is a lot of fun, with most visitors either swirling into the exhibition space or gliding up fast escalators to their level for a concert. The auditorium is impressively huge and the 50 foot speaker stacks more than compensate for a flat acoustic - you could say they overcompensate, a gig here will see your hair ruffled by walls of sound.

There's three drawbacks to the O2: First up, it's in the middle of nowhere. Number two, the transport links are too lightweight. We saw girls crying after the 10th train had passed without having space for them. And finally, it's terrifying at the back. The acoustics and visibility are fantastic, but the vertigo is serious. That said, this is a truly incredible place and you should definitely pay it a visit.

Reviews

belias Friday, 17 April
Not a fan of the design of the dome, but the o2 regularly has quality shows on display. The Body Worlds exhibition in particular is brilliant and should be seen.
Al Warwick Tuesday, 13 October
A venue with obvious appeal thanks to it's sheer size and the scale of the technological brunt. Even when sitting up in the heavens (which will be most of the time for the casual fan) the atmosphere is unique whatever the event.
