The Fan Museum is the first museum in the world dedicated exclusively to the fan. Situated within two separate grade II houses in the Greenwich World Heritage Site, it boasts the biggest collection of fans in the world, currently standing at 4000 as well as a Japanese-style garden, pond and stream.
Opened in 1991, the oldest fan dates from the Tenth Century. The collection is displayed on a rotating basis, changing three times a year, so that the fans can be treated and conserved in their downtime.
For fanatics, there's a permanent educational display teaching the history, variety and manufacturing processes of the collection. You can even sign up to a fan-making class or look up a particular design in the reference library.
